Hope For Brighter Tomorrow's!

80% of children enter foster care with only the clothes on their back. This leaves children feeling vulnerable, insecure, and forgotten. Gift of God Ministry was created to help heal the feelings of neglect, break generational cycles, and bring hope home to the children entering foster care to experience a brighter tomorrow with dignity, security, self-value, belonging, healing and love.

How do we serve? We work closely with the department of human services as well as group and individual foster homes in Baldwin County. As soon as a child enters foster care we are notified and given the child's age/clothing/shoe size. We then put together a hope bag that includes a week's worth of clothing, underwear, pajamas, socks, shoes, toiletries, stuffie, blanket, coloring book and crayons in a duffle bag and backpack. The hope bag is delivered within hours to the child. Each hope bag is retail valued at $250 in necessities.

It is crucial that the basic needs of water, food, shelter and clothing are fulfilled for our brain to experience homeostasis, the calm, rational, and healing phase of the mind. When the basic needs are not fulfilled our brains trigger a flight or fight response which disrupts the brain’s proper development leading to mental health disorders, behavioral challenges, drug addictions, alcohol abuse, homelessness, and more. The sad reality is that 50% of foster children dropout of high school, 40% of foster children willhave children in foster care as parents, 43% of the homeless population is from foster care and 46% of foster children will be unemployed as adults.

Our objective

Our goal is to break the cycle of abuse and spread awareness

In 2020, Alabama had 11,663 child abuse cases referred for investigation resulting in 9,175 total children being placed in the foster care system. All of these children and youth were cared for by a first responders or personal caregivers, 80% of which were rescued from unsafe environments with only the clothes on their backs.
